For as long as Kendal can remember she dreamed of visiting the islands of Greece. Watching movies like ‘The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ and ‘Mamma Mia’ simply added to the fantasies. In other words, wandering through the the ancient cobblestone streets high up on the cliffs of the Mediterranean Sea has been a bucket list destination for years! Anthony, on the other hand, has always been fascinated with Ancient Greek civilization; the myths, the gods, the academia, and the wars. Needless to say, we were both so excited for the adventure and opportunity to photograph our way through Santorini, Hydra, and Athens!
Truth be told, there is absolutely NO way we could go on vacation to one of the prettiest destinations in the world and NOT do a photoshoot!! Therefor, we were over-the-moon and excited to partner with Sara Grace and Aubrey White co-owners of the ultra chic bridal boutique Grace & White Bridal to do an elopement bridal shoot with one of their gorgeous gowns! The McKenna gown by Leanne Marshall is simply stunning, made of silk chiffon, the dress is light and airy–billowing in the wind, and couldn’t have been more perfect for our Greek Isle elopement. The DeLauras (Kendal specifically) loves Fashion, Travel and Photography, therefor, combining ALL three aspects in one shoot was a dream come true!!
If you’re wondering who created the stunningggg bouquet featured in this photoshoot, Kendal has many skills! 🙂 Watch our little behind the scenes video for the whole story (shot on an iphone!)
We worked with local Greece wedding planner, Konstantina Lafara of SOO EVENTS to pull off this epic shoot!! If you’re planning a destination wedding on one of the many stunning Greek Isles we would highly suggest working with her amazing team; SOO EVENTS specializes in full service weddings and elopements all over Greece. Konstantina’s weddings are well curated and eclectically designed and have been featured in Martha Stuart Weddings, Bridal Musings, Ruffled, 100 Layer Cake, and the Wedding Chicks.
The bridal photoshoot took place on the Island of Hydra. Hydra is perhaps the most beautiful port village in all of Greece. The small, boat filled harbor lined with cafes and restaurants is surrounded by a village of houses and mansions that rise up the hills like an amphitheater. We arrived via Ferry, (the ferry ride takes about 1.5-2 hours from Athens–we used Direct Ferries to book our tickets) and stayed in a gorgeous stone house for 3 nights. One unique thing about the island is there are NO CARS, therefor, the only way to get around is by foot, boat or donkeys! We went on hikes, sat outside and sipped on local Greek wine and ate fresh caught seafood! Want to see the blogpost we wrote about our trip? CLICK HERE!
In conclusion, the Island of Hydra is the perfect place for your destination wedding or elopement–the town is super picturesque, bustling yet peaceful with tons of places to explore, eat, and see. The charming atmosphere of the island makes for one of the most serene/luxurious destinations near Athens. In other words, can’t wait for our next trip back to Greece to photograph a full wedding with SOO EVENTS and her amazing team!
Special thank you to our amazing models: Stefi Novi and Giorgos Glezos
The breathtaking wedding at Alila Ventana Inn was artfully captured using a vintage Super 8 film camera, adding an enchanting touch of nostalgia to the timeless memories.
